(Canada, 01st August 2023) — The Future Communicators Foundation (FCF) is pleased to welcome Angela Scaffidi to The PR Trust Board of Trustees. Angela Scaffidi is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Australia, a member of Chief Executive Women, and is Global Chair Elect for PROI Worldwide, the largest international partnership of independent communication consultancies. She is a Founder and Managing Partner of SenateSHJ, one of Australasia’s leading independent communication consultancies, specializing in reputation, change management, public affairs, digital and insights, with four offices across Australia and New Zealand.

“We are thrilled to be working with people we respect from across the globe on the FCF Scholarship,” said Angela Scaffidi. “We strongly support the Future Communicators Foundation’s mission to advance diversity in the industry and focus on important issues such as social justice and climate. Our industry has a critical role to play in crafting a compelling story for the future, as well as tackling disinformation and misinformation. This has never been more important.”
As part of SenateSHJ’s commitment to the Future Communicators Foundation, the firm will sponsor one annual academic scholarship at AU$ 2500 over 4 years. Full details will be announced later this year.
Angela Scaffidi serves as deputy Chair of Challenge, one of Australia’s longest running children’s cancer charities, and chairs The Missed Foundation, Australia’s only not-for-profit that supports the families of long-term missing Australians.
“We are passionate about education and the opportunities it creates for young people,” says Angela Scaffidi. “We have worked in the education space for more than 20 years, in early years, schools and higher education settings. Both personally and professionally I have seen the power of education as the great equalizer,” she said.
Since its founding in 2002, SenateSHJ has focused on helping people communicate—the force that drives human progress. Its mission has garnered multiple awards recognising agency and workplace excellence, including the 2022 PRovoke Asia-Pacific Corporate/Public Affairs Consultancy of the Year; the 2020 Mumbrella CommsCon Winner of the Pro Bono Campaign of the Year; and the highest independent Australasian consultancy in the 2017, 1028 and 2019 Holmes Report of Global Top 250 PR Agencies.
“SenateSHJ is committed to making a positive contribution to our industry and the broader community,” said Scaffidi. “We have sat on university advisory boards, lectured, created internship and mentoring opportunities, and provided pro bono support to The Missed Foundation for more than 10 years.”
“Angela’s appointment adds strength and depth to our Board of Trustees,” said Allard W. van Veen, Founder of The PR Trust and The Future Communicators Foundation (FCF). “I have worked with Angela since 2009 in her position as a Founder of SenateSHJ, and her experience mentoring within the industry, as well as supporting non-profits, will greatly benefit the Foundation and its outreach initiatives.”
“We are very happy to welcome Angela Scaffidi to our Board of Trustees,” said Richard Tsang, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The PR Trust, the non-profit organisation that administers The Future Communicators Foundation. “Angela brings additional reach and humanitarian connections to our Board, increasing our social outreach across Australasia,” he added.
“It it is so fulfilling to see the FCF Scholarship initiative gaining traction in Australia with SenateSHJ joining ICON as the first two Australian agencies to commit to the program,” said Paul Cheal, Australia representative to The PR Trust Advisory Council. “As a values lead agency, SenateSHJ is very much aligned to the mission and vision of FCF of helping the next generation of communicators confront and manage major societal issues such as climate change, sustainability, and social justice,” he said.
The Future Communicators Foundation provides scholarships, learning opportunities, and outreach programs that foster communication skills around sustainability, climate science, and social justice, with a focus on developing countries and underserved communities. The FCF recently awarded the SPRG FCF Scholarship at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the FINN Partners FCF Scholarship at Florida A&M University (FAMU), the FCF Climate Scholarship at Wisconsin International University College (Ghana), and two Canadian national scholarships around climate, sustainability, and communications. The FCF’s education outreach around climate benefits local agencies who are in need of top-tier talent attuned to today’s challenges.
